Getting the right amount of sleep is essential for maintaining overall health. Sleeping too little (less than 6 hours) or too much (more than 8 hours) can both have negative effects on the body. If these habits continue unchecked, they may lead to chronic health issues in the long term.
Today, Nuvo Life Care would like to share some insights on how both sleep deprivation and oversleeping can impact your well-being.
Too Little Sleep (Hyposomnia)
Sleeping less than 6 hours per day can disrupt many of the body’s internal systems and daily functions. Some of the common effects include feeling fatigued, having dark under-eye circles, experiencing daytime drowsiness, mood swings, irritability, and increased stress levels.
Too Much Sleep (Hypersomnia)
Sleeping more than 8 hours a day can also cause the body to feel sluggish and persistently tired—both during the day and night. This may result from poor sleep habits, medication side effects, or underlying mental health conditions. Common symptoms include lack of motivation, slowed thinking, reduced appetite, and a tendency to gain weight more easily.
